WANTING POWER

I fly off my garage roof

with a beach umbrella:

Invincibility is my game.

My only power

turns out to be

stopping traffic

with a push of a button

to make the light red.

I’m powerless,

a grain of sand

washed in every tide.

Even black belts

get shot.

Money can’t protect me

from gasping antiseptic

hospital air.

Grandma warned me:

Health is wealth.

Even billionaires get cancer.
